Virgo New Moon 🌑 ♍️
Published about 2 months ago • 5 min read
Hello Reader,
There is something about this New Moon in Virgo that feels like standing barefoot in freshly turned earth. Before anything new can be planted, sometimes the soil has to lie fallow. This time of year always brings me to a place of considering the stories and personas that have run their course in my life.
Virgo is big Earth medicine. It nurtures what has been neglected and turns our attention to the places that need care. It is an invitation to refine, to grow, to tend what matters. But even the most beautiful energy carries a shadow, and lately I have been meeting mine.
Meeting Virgo's Medicine
Recently, something in my work did not land the way I hoped it would. I knew it in my body almost immediately. There was a felt sense that something had been out of balance, and later, that felt sense was validated.
My first instinct was familiar: figure out what went wrong, fix it, make it better, somehow reach backward and repair what had already happened. And at the same time, another part of me wanted to throw my hands up and wonder whether I should be doing any of it at all. I kept swinging between not enough and I can do this better, sometimes within the same breath. It has been exhausting to live with. Maybe you've experienced this too.
The truth is, some things can be repaired and others just can't. With the things that can't, our work is to find the lesson, sit with the discomfort, and understand that this too belongs. This is the push of evolution, and the work that the grounding energy of our Virgo New Moon offers.
Perfectionism, the Shadow Side of Virgo
Perfectionism is one of the shadow aspects of Virgo. Although this shadowy side tends to be more prevalent during full moons, it can surface during new moons too, so we can see it and the need to release it. And for anyone who has suffered trauma, especially those who live with CPTSD, perfectionism is rarely just a habit. It is a way to find belonging, to stay safe, to be loved. So when it takes hold, we want to anticipate everything, overwork, over-prepare, and leave no room for failure. But when we move through the world that way, there is little room left for intuition, mystery, experimentation, or the imperfect humanness that so much of our medicine actually works through.
There are versions of us that survived through perfectionism, overworking, people-pleasing, and controlling. And we honor that version of ourselves for all the ways it protected us. But perhaps now we are ready to let the soil hold who we have been, so we can begin planting who we are becoming.
The question I am carrying into this dark moon, and the one I want to offer you, is this: Where are you still spending your life force trying to prove that you are enough, and what might become possible if you let that old pattern become compost instead?
A Simple Dark Moon Ritual
If it feels supportive, find a little earth during this dark moon. You might step outside beneath the evening sky or bring a small bowl of soil inside and sit quietly with it for a few moments.
Choose a small stone, leaf, or other natural object to represent a pattern you are ready to stop carrying. Hold it in your hands and acknowledge what that pattern once did for you, without judging it or forcing yourself to feel grateful. Simply recognize that it has been part of your story.
Place it into the soil and cover it gently, and as you do, name one quality you would like to cultivate in the space it leaves behind: trust, courage, discernment, rest, freedom, enoughness, or whatever feels true for you. Then offer a low, steady hum into the space around you, feeling the vibration in your chest and imagining the sound traveling downward into the earth, carrying your intention into the soil. Nothing elaborate is needed. The ritual is simply a way of marking that something is changing.
Seated in Authenticity
For the deep feelers, healers, space holders, creatives, and those of us who work closely with energy, there is something especially tender in this invitation. Our sensitivity does not have to carry the burden of perfection. Our medicine does not become powerful because we never get anything wrong. It becomes powerful because we are seated in all of who we are.
If you are feeling this turning too, you are welcome to bring it into the spaces we share at GlassWing Medicine. Sound, body, voice, silence, and ceremony keep reminding me that transformation does not always begin with doing more. Sometimes it begins when we loosen our grip on what has been asking to be released.
May this dark moon remind you that the earth never asks the seed to prove what it will become before receiving it. May you trust what is ready to be buried, what is ready to rest, and the new life already gathering quietly beneath the surface.
With heartfelt gratitude.
Do you relate to this? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Sold Out. Cacao, Sound + Fire Ceremony | September 26th @ the Homestead
Join us on September 26th for a two-hour cacao, sound, and fire ceremony at GlassWing Medicine in Onalaska. This seasonal gathering honors the autumn Equinox and Aries Harvest Full Moon with cacao, an immersive sound journey, and a fire ritual for release and renewal.
Together, we’ll open the heart, settle the nervous system, and make space for what is ready to shift as the season turns inward.
Space is limited to 10 people. Energy exchange is $55-$65. You can register here.
New Moon in Libra Virtual Sound Bath | Oct 7
I’m looking forward to gathering virtually each month for these New Moon sound baths. You’re invited to join from wherever you are, take a little time to come back into your body, and set an intention for the cycle ahead.
I’ve created this as a high-quality listening experience so you can settle in at home, receive the sound fully, and give yourself some space to rest and listen inward.
New Moon Sound + Percussion | October 10 @ Pacha Collective Vancouver, WA
Patrick and I will be at Pacha Collective in Vancouver for an evening of sound, percussion, and New Moon intention setting.
We’ll gather under the New Moon in Libra for more than an hour of crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, voice, and live percussion, with space to slow down, settle in, and listen for what wants your attention as a new cycle begins.
If this feels like the kind of evening your body has been asking for, I’d love to have you there.
Awakening the Dream | November 14 @ Elevation Hive
Awakening the Dream is a collaborative workshop that brings together conscious dreamwork, restorative sound, and community to explore what this moment is asking of us without becoming overwhelmed.
Together, we’ll move through three doors: turning inward to find your ground, widening our awareness to what we’re moving through collectively, and exploring how to meet the world in a way that feels both meaningful and sustainable.
Sound will be woven throughout to support rest, inward listening, and the intuitive space where insight can emerge. No dreamwork experience is needed.
If this feels like a space you need right now, we’d be honored to have you join us. Register here.
Sometimes we just need a quick break. I'm loving my rainstick, so I made a sound bath with it. It's perfect to listen to on your lunch break, when resting, or just before bed as a transition. Let me know if you'd like more of this type of sound or if there is something you'd especially like to listen to.
